3. Working

An orifice flange works with an orifice plate inserted between two flanges. As fluid passes through the orifice plate, a pressure drop occurs. This differential pressure is used to calculate the flow rate of the fluid. Pressure taps (tappings) are provided on the flanges to connect differential pressure transmitters.

4. Principle

The orifice flange set operates on Bernoulli’s Principle, where the drop in pressure across a constriction (orifice) in the flow path is proportional to the square of the flow rate. This allows for accurate calculation of fluid flow.

5. Assembly

  1. Place the orifice plate between the two flanges.
  2. Ensure the pressure tap holes align with the orifice bore.
  3. Insert gaskets on both sides of the orifice plate.
  4. Bolt the flanges together.
  5. Connect the differential pressure transmitter to the taps.
  6. Tighten jack screws as required.

6. Installation Process

  • Clean pipe ends before installation.
  • Position the orifice flange set on the pipeline.
  • Use appropriate gaskets and ensure alignment.
  • Install bolts and tighten in a cross pattern.
  • Connect impulse lines to pressure taps.
  • Verify zero leakage and pressure drop.
