reducing flange

reducing flange

Reducing Flange is a type of flange that connects pipes of different sizes. It has a larger diameter on one side and a smaller diameter on the other, allowing the flow of material from a larger pipe to a smaller one. Reducing flanges are essential in fluid and gas transportation systems to facilitate the connection between pipes of various diameters.

Description

1. Description

A Reducing Flange is a type of flange that connects pipes of different sizes. It has a larger diameter on one side and a smaller diameter on the other, allowing the flow of material from a larger pipe to a smaller one. Reducing flanges are essential in fluid and gas transportation systems to facilitate the connection between pipes of various diameters. Locus manufactures reducing flanges with high precision, ensuring durability and leak-proof connections.

  • Certification: ISO 9001:2015, CE, and other relevant certifications

3. Working

The reducing flange is installed between two pipes with differing diameters. It facilitates a seamless flow transition from the larger diameter pipe to the smaller diameter pipe, minimizing pressure loss and maintaining the efficiency of fluid or gas transport. The flange works by creating a tight seal using bolted connections that ensure no leakage, even under high pressure or harsh environmental conditions.

4. Principle

The reducing flange operates on the principle of flanged connection to pipe systems, where the larger flange face connects to the larger diameter pipe and the smaller face connects to the smaller diameter pipe. The connection is sealed using a gasket and bolted tightly to prevent leakage, while the internal flow transition is gradual due to the tapered design, which ensures reduced turbulence and pressure drop.

5. Assembly

  • Step 1: Inspection – Verify the dimensions of the reducing flange against the customer’s specifications.
  • Step 2: Positioning – Align the reducing flange with the pipes to be connected.
  • Step 3: Gasket Placement – Place the gasket between the flange faces to create a leak-proof seal.
  • Step 4: Bolt Tightening – Secure the flange with bolts according to the torque specifications to prevent leakage.
  • Step 5: Final Inspection – Check for any misalignment, tightness, and leakage.

6. Installation Process

  1. Preparation: Clean the flange surfaces and ensure that both the flange and pipe ends are free of dirt, rust, or oil.
  2. Align the Pipes: Position the larger diameter flange with the larger pipe and the smaller diameter flange with the smaller pipe.
  3. Install Gasket: Insert the gasket between the flange faces to provide a seal.
  4. Bolt Flanges Together: Using the appropriate bolt size, connect the flanges together by tightening the bolts evenly in a star pattern to the required torque specification.
  5. Check for Leaks: After installation, perform a leak test to ensure the flange connection is secure and leak-proof.

8. Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Leaking Flange

Ensure proper gasket installation and correct bolt torque.

Corrosion on Surface

Check for exposure to chemicals or improper coating. Reapply coating if necessary.

Misalignment

Inspect the alignment of the pipes and flange faces before installation.

Excessive Pressure Loss

Check for improper sizing or an inadequate flow path in the flange.
